Q: Is the Encanto junior novelization canon? In the book, it says that Bruno doesn’t wash his underwear and I am genuinely curious about the validity of that fact
That was a joke Antonio once said that we eventually didn’t have time for - but it was more like teasing - the rats throwing fun shade at Bruno, not a “real” indication of his hygiene. 😬🐀🩲
Q: So the question: from my understanding, in early version Tio Bruno/Oscar had rather different role. What his personality was back then?
And is it right that that character was eventually split into Bruno *and* Camilo🙂?
Not exactly. The very first version of Bruno/Oscar was that he was Mirabel’s estranged cousin.
Q: This one has been itching at me! Who walked Julieta and Pepa down the aisle? Was it Alma or Bruno?
Let me think about that one. Bruno definitely didn’t walk Pepa. You know why. 🌧
Q: Thank you for doing this Q&A! Is the little alcove behind the family tree supposed to be another exit from Bruno’s room? Because it’s the same shape as the hole behind the picture upstairs. It looks like it could be a useful short cut.
We had a version once where they popped out of there, but didn’t use it. I think in this current version probably not.
Q: When in the walls, would the rats celebrate Bruno's birthday to make him feel less alone and sad on this day ?
This won’t be a popular answer… so I’m sorry in advance… but I never thought of Bruno’s rats as sentient, so if the rats did celebrate his birthday, it would only be because he trained them to… which is even sadder. 😭
Q: OK. Explain this Disney! Why Bruno so smol in the movie but tall in the book!? Either one of these are is true height or somebody messed up! Unless his sisters are picking him up! Mah stars, he's so smol!!! TINY RATMAN!!💚🐀
Bruno illustrated all of the books and drew himself taller.
Q: do the madrigals rooms change as they grow older or…?
I could see that. We always thought Bruno’s room developed more stairs as he became more distant from the family.
Q:Did Dolores ever mention that she LITERALLY listened to Bruno? She didn't say anything out of fear? Or because of some promise between the two...? 🤔
Okay, I’ll finally answer this. If you really listen to the words, Dolores never explicitly states she has always truly believed Bruno is there. When she was little (after Bruno supposedly left) she probably heard whispers, but everyone told her Bruno was definitely gone, so she worried she was losing her mind and started doubting herself. When she says “I knew he never left!” she’s really saying - I felt gaslighted for the last ten years, and I shouldn’t have doubted myself!
Q:Bruno's door lit up when he used his gift in Antonio's room, so would it also be illuminated by some involuntary vision? He must have had more than one in his stay on the walls... Would no one notice the door shining "for no apparent reason"?
I think his door is illuminating because Mirabel is making him feel included in the family (and therefore Casita) again.
Q:Is there a reason why Bruno is single
Yes.
Q:When did Bruno start being distant from the family was it before or after Mirabel was born?
Bruno’s gradual distancing from the family definitely started before Mirabel was born. We always thought the pressure placed on him would hit especially hard during his adolescence, so as with many families, those cracks started early and worsened bit by bit over time.
Q: [Deleted]
I think Bruno was already breaking from the pressure when Isa was still in the single digits.
These were found on a google doc. Thank you to the person that comiled this
Q: If Bruno’s rats play sports and perform telenovelas…what if those rats also reenact Disney movies? Think "Olaf Presents" but with rats #Encanto
Was thinking the same thing!!! For now… it’s just a dream!
Q: Sir i really need to know! WHERE IS BRUNOS BED IN HIS ROOM?! I'm so sad thinking he doesnt have one!
He sleeps in a hammock, which is closed in that scene - you may be able to see it in a shot or two!
The family baby Many asked about the birth order of the original triplets: Julieta’s oldest, healing helps everyone and she’s most responsible, Pepa’s “the middle child” - more emotional because Julieta was the “adult”, Bruno is the baby… making his departure all the more tragic.⚕️🌤⏳
Inspiration Part of the inspiration for Bruno’s room was the amazing Salt Cathedral of Zipaquir
A special name Bruno calls himself "Hernando" as a shout out to our dear friend and collaborator @BahamonHernando - who invited us to his house in Colombia and treated @ByronPHoward and I to dinner with his family. I will never forget it. #Encanto
